Menyederhanakan network menjadi single address dan subnet mask bisa dilakukan dengan tiga langkah. Lihatlah 4 network address berikut :
  • 172.16.0.0/16
  • 172.17.0.0/16
  • 172.18.0.0/16
  • 172.19.0.0/16
  • 172.16.0.0 -> 10101100 00010000 00000000 00000000
    172.17.0.0 -> 10101100 00010001 00000000 00000000
    172.18.0.0 -> 10101100 00010010 00000000 00000000
    172.19.0.0 -> 10101100 00010011 00000000 00000000
  • Langkah pertama adalah menampilkan biny format dari masing-masing network address

    Langkah kedua, hitung jumlah bit yang sama dari semua network address tersebut dimulai dari bit yang paling kiri.
  • menghitung jumlah bit yang cocok paling kiri untuk menentukan subnet mask. 14 bit yang cocok, /14 atau 255.252.0.0
    Anda bisa lihat bahwa ada 14 bit yang sama dari semua network address, jadi prefixnya adalah /14 atau 255.252.0.0
    Langkah ketiga adalah copy semuat bit yang sama dan kemudian tambahkan “bit 0” sampai dengan berjumlah 32 bit address. Maka ini kemudian dijadikan network address.

    Langkah ketiga, menyalin atau mengcopy bit yang cocok dan menambahkan nol bit untuk menentukan alamat jaringan

  • Gambar diatas menunjukkan bahwa keempat network 172.16.0.0 , 172.17.0.0 , 172.18.0.0 , 172.19.0.0 dapat di sederhanakan kedalam single network address dan profix 172.16.0.0/14.
